This is the song of consciousness.
Sail with the wind,
swim with the current,
cut with the grain,
trust the wisdom of the earth.
Follow the terrain,
flow with the traffic,
honor the natural course of things.
Reality rewards the effortless
with yields far beyond
what opposition and resistance
could ever imagine.

Conscious people
are obvious.
The footprint of their curiosity,
their sense of possibility
is endless, far beyond
the measure of their personal
past, place, perspective, practice, or purpose.
They cherish their inhale into the unknown
as much as their exhale of the known.

Whether we like it or not,
whether we approve of it or not,
whether it makes sense or not,
things are the way they are,
because they have become fully possible.
And if in the process, we realize
that what we do right now
makes something else more fully possible,
we discover our power,
and dwell in a calm sense of possibility.
49
When we’re conscious,
we’re endlessly curious about
ourselves and our world
in all of its patterns, dynamics, and details.
We love the richness of complexity.
As a result, we are naturally attracted
to diverse species of change and learning.
Only when we’re unaware
do we harbor a bias
for the illusive certainty of generalizations.
When we’re conscious,
rather than being confused by complexity,
we thrive on it
because it holds so many possibilities
for creating more expressions
of what we love.
52
Life is a pattern language.
Nature does not prefer to express itself
in the geometry of straight lines.
It prefers the poetry
of circles, spirals, and arcs.
When we are in harmony with nature,
love becomes more important
than efficiency.

65
When we’re conscious,
the few small things that we can do
become more important
than the thousand we can’t.
Small and slow
are sometimes faster and bigger.
Nothing moves more slowly
than plans the size of large binders.
Nothing inspires less authentic engagement
than goals the size of big screens.
74
The more unaware we are,
the more obsessed we are with time.
When we’re in conflict with reality,
we’re never happy with the
amount of time we think we have.
We are adversaries to
things that take too much time,
advocates to things
we don’t have enough time for.
When we see reality clearly,
we know that the only time we have
is the time we commit to.
When we’re in harmony with reality,
we’re clear that we cannot manage time,
only timing.
79
Conscious people
do not fear their power,
do not fear their strength.
Do not minimize their complexity,
do not hide their light.
Do not believe the lies of their tribes
do not hide from the truth of their experience.
Do not mistake evil for good,
or good for evil.
Conscious people
do not look outside
for what is inside.
